Ladies Golf Tips

Do ladies golf differently than men?

Here’s a simple experiment to demonstrate a difference in body physics.

  1. Stand facing a wall and step two foot lengths back from the wall.
  2. Place a chair on the floor between you and the wall.
  3. Bend over the chair so that your body is parallel with the chair (keeping your back straight) and place your head against the wall.
  4. Now, pick up the chair and with the chair raised off the floor try standing up straight.

Most adult men find this impossible to do while women are usually able to do it. Ladies carry their weight differently, their wider hips and less developed torso puts their center of mass (center of gravity) lower than a man’s allowing ladies to pick up the chair.

Balance is a critical factor in establishing an accurate golf swing. To stay in balance, a golfer must control where the rest of the body is in relation to the center of gravity while moving their head, shoulders, arms, and legs around that point. If this point is at a different location on a lady than a man, lady golfers must move differently while swinging a club.

Power is another critical factor in a golf swing, men generally have a more powerful torso so much of their swinging force comes from brute strength. Lady golfers generate power by twisting their lower body weight through the stroke.

Ladies Golf Training Videos

We’ve put together a few training videos by golf experts teaching ladies the basics. These videos focus especially on techniques suited to the short game (pitch and putt). Pay special attention to where their center of gravity is and how they move their bodies around that point while swinging. We’ll be adding more ladies golf training videos as they become available. If you find a good one please let us know and we’ll add it to our collection.
